Emma Horan (She/Her)
Emma has been climbing for the last 24 years with over half of that time spent representing Australia at international competitions. Recently, her focus shifted to route setting, running Nomad Bouldering Gym, and coaching the next generation of Australian competition climbers.
Emma is one of five National Chief Route Setters in Australia. She is an Oceanic Route Setter and one of the only Australians to have set at an IFSC World Cup event, being invited to set twice in the last two years.
Emma’s coaching skill stems from her experience as an elite athlete, a route setter, and a coach of numerous members from the Australian Climbing Team. Her strengths lie in complex movement analysis and understanding, climbing mindset, and competition strategy.
Emma has been the President of Sport Climbing NSW, and is largely responsible for facilitating the growth of our state competition scene in recent years. She has also been instrumental in securing access to outdoor rock climbing in Sydney and is responsible for the “Access is Not an Accident” campaign that aims to educate new climbers about their continuing impact on our crags and surrounds.
