Dr Mattias Braach-Maksvytis (He/Him)
Doctor of Physiotherapy
Bachelor of Medical Science
Accredited Yoga Teacher (I)
Macquarie University Blue for Rock Climbing
Mattias became a physiotherapist to give climbers a level of care that was absent from his own experiences with injury.
Mattias’ understanding of climbing-related injury and performance has been invaluable to his growth as an internationally-experienced climber. He has dedicated over a decade to climbing overseas and has developed and completed the largest number of challenging boulders by any current Australian rock climber.
His strengths lie in his vast movement catalogue and problem-solving mindset. As a specialist climbing coach, Mattias knows what is required to perform on the wall, and works with clients to hone their training to match their specific goals and projects. He has presented injury, movement, and recovery workshops online and in-person and has a keen interest in just about anything movement, climbing and physiotherapy-related.
Mattias has been climbing competitively and outdoors globally for more than two decades. During this time he has developed an intricate knowledge of what it takes to overcome injury and climb to the best of your ability. His aim is to improve the quality of care for the climbing community by empowering individuals to make informed decisions about themselves.
Mattias is fascinated by movement and has supplemented his rock climbing with gymnastics, calisthenics, resistance training and Yoga. As a certified yoga teacher, he has a keen understanding of the relationship that exists between stress, resilience, mindfulness and performance, and looks to convey an understanding of these factors to his clients to help them better understand their capabilities.
Mattias believes that everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and welcome, whoever they are and wherever they go. He is actively trying to engender change within the climbing community and the spaces it exists in.
